Tips and advice for performers

PLATFORM is a FREE singer-songwriter evening presenting the best of today's creative music.  An eclectic mix of styles from folk to jazz to heavy rock makes for an interesting and entertaining evening.  Each PLATFORM comprises a number of booked acts plus various floor spots who 'pitch and play'.  These are always welcome and every effort will be made to ensure that all who turn up are given a spot.

With a sound engineer on hand and a great PA we guarantee a great sound for the performers with an opportunity (optional) to record a minidisc of their performance.  There is an excellent, friendly atmosphere and easy transport links making the evening a must!

Performances start at about 8.15pm. Performers are asked to be at the venue at 7.00pm for sound-checking.

To perform at PLATFORM, there are two  options : simply turn up on the night to perform 1 or 2 songs (depending on how many acts we have) or send a CD with a view to a booking to performing a 25-30 minute set. The address for the latter is Ken Wood, 1 Poseidon Court, Homer Drive, London E14 3UG or call on 020 7538 5516 or 07802 218 752.

Performers who have CDs may bring them and sell them on the night.

PLATFORM meets on the second Tuesday of each month

Cisco Pike

A loose federation of highly seasoned musicians formed to give tremendous colour and vitality to the songs of singer/songwriter Terence Malley, Cisco Pike is a rich blend of blues and folk-rock, playing songs with plenty of hook-lines to them, and sung in a memorable variety of vocal ranges.

Paul Steven Wood

Colchester singer/songwriter, with a style similar to Tom McRae, a clean vocal style and rhythm based guitar, is currently promoting his debut album 'What's Expected Of Me'.  Within his dark and moody song-writing, where lyrics are very much the focal point, his Influences such as Dave Matthews and City & Colour are evident. Stu E Skinner

Wandering Star

On tour from Italy, they say of their music, "Anything can be an influence to us. The sea, the city. . . even a warm cup of tea on a blustery day. . . or a cold beer on a hot summer night. . . poetry, literature, theatre. . . . . ."
